Fall Lessons and Practicing

There are advantages to Summer lessons if you use the spare time to buckle down. However, Fall lessons seem more popular because folks are back to a routine. Music lessons are very much a routine split between the weekly lesson itself and the time at home you practice. Whether you take guitar, ukulele, drum, piano, horn, violin or voice lessons, the same theory applies. The more you practice, the better you become.

That being said, some folks just don't have a lot of spare time. Even 15 min every other day can be productive. If you practice every day twice-10 minutes each session, that is even more effective. The main thing is the student should feel like they are growing at the end of each lesson.

Suggestions:

  • Leave your guitar or violin out, not in a closet. Open the case so the instrument will call out to you.

  • Put your drum sticks where you will see them daily as a reminder to play. You can do the same with a piano book.

Guitar, ukulele, drum, piano, horn, violin or voice lessons can be very rewarding and can lead to a lifetime of enjoyment. If the lessons aren't going well, ask for another teacher. If the lessons still aren't gratifying, try another instrument!

Everyone should take music lessons at some point in their lives. You are cheating yourself if you don't at least try to sing or play an instrument. Stretch yourself!
